You have just entered room "biblestudy." WackyWabbit25 has entered the room. SOL4 SCRIPTURA has entered
the room. cowboymatt329: Okay, well, it seems we all know each other, so let us open
in prayer... cowboymatt329: Anyone want to pray today? crosskritters:
I volunteer mattie HDRgov has entered the room. cowboymatt329:
Okey dokey...we have someone being volunteered...Mattie, would you like to open us in prayer? crosskritters:
I think he left crosskritters: he doesn't like us cowboymatt329: Okay, well, I will open up
in prayer then... cowboymatt329: Dear Lord, cowboymatt329:
I thank you for allowing us to gather here once again for Bible Study. I pray You would bless the study and that we would
all learn what you want us to learn. cowboymatt329: In Christ's name, cowboymatt329:
Amen crosskritters: amen tiggerish44:
AMEN! PHC4Christ: Amen HDRgov:
amen WackyWabbit25: amen cowboymatt329: Okey dokey, well, 1 Corinthians 1. And first off, does anyone have anything that they
particularly liked or wanted to discuss out of this chapter? cowboymatt329: anyone? PHC4Christ: Well, I like verses 10-17 SOL4 SCRIPTURA has left the room. PHC4Christ:
shows how important it is for Christians to get along, but also shows how guilty we are of divisions in churches (and elsewhere) crosskritters: yes cowboymatt329:
yeah, verses 10-17 are very good....they are something that many churches need to here. Probably something we all need to
hear..and apply. crosskritters: ironicly, most christians
know this passage but almost no one does it PHC4Christ: yeah, sadly cowboymatt329: Very true, the same can be said for many passages. cowboymatt329:
Often, I think we "hear" and do not do. AdOlPhInSbLuEs has entered the room. PHC4Christ:
one of the things I thought when I saw it... PHC4Christ: instead of "I am of Paul, Apollos,
Cephas, etc.".... AdOlPhInSbLuEs has left the room. PHC4Christ: "I am of Calvin,
Luther, Wesley..." crosskritters: yeah crosskritters: totally cowboymatt329:
definetly... PHC4Christ: thus where all our divisions are - and where the church denominations
come from crosskritters: but how are we going to
rectify this problem PHC4Christ: well... crosskritters:
well? PHC4Christ: granted that pentecostal
christians and presbyterians don't worship the same way... PHC4Christ: but every Christian
should agree on salvation crosskritters: but no
one even agrees on that PHC4Christ: what do you mean? crosskritters:
some pray jesus into their hearts, some baptize for salvation, some say that you can't
be saved unless you're preselected and therefore conversion is very different crosskritters:
I think that whatevery your possition on that issue, you wouldn't tollerate others PHC4Christ: I mean the basic message - I am a sinner, I'm going to hell, Jesus saved me, I need to
repent and live anew, etc. cowboymatt329: right... cowboymatt329:
As much as I enjoy theology, I think we use it so much we lose track of the point of Christianity. PHC4Christ:
exactly AcidRainLiTE has entered the room. PHC4Christ: I also think that some
issues people can agree to disagree on - unless it is blasphemous crosskritters: what qualifies as blasphemous? PHC4Christ: well,
for instance, I know a "church" that allows homosexual pastors............. PHC4Christ:
that will NOT be tolerated cowboymatt329: right crosskritters:
why should that not be tolerated and other things should? (for the sake of arguement) crosskritters: because that is a practical issue? PHC4Christ: can you give me an example of something that can / should be tolerated? crosskritters:
you said that some things people can agree to disagree on PHC4Christ:
yes... PHC4Christ: I guess it would depend what kinds of issues and how strong the leadership
is in the church crosskritters: what do you mean? PHC4Christ: sadly, sometimes leadership can be so riddled with disagreements, they can't handle other
things, often more important - thus causing splits crosskritters: which is a bad thign PHC4Christ: yeah crosskritters:
how do we prevent that crosskritters: ok.....Jon (acidrain, I hope you don't mind crosskritters:
me putting you on the spot PHC4Christ: well....don't
bicker unnecessarily crosskritters: but you travel
45 min to get to church crosskritters: why
is that? AcidRainLiTE: well, it is not because i want to go to a church
that fits my beliefs exactly AcidRainLiTE: in all honesty, I attended that chruch because
that is where my parents went on sunday AcidRainLiTE: so, my parents are my ride to church crosskritters: so, why did they go to that church? AcidRainLiTE: i think because they met there crosskritters:
ok, bad example AcidRainLiTE: im sorry that
that didnt really add anything to this discussion crosskritters: but there are people who travel far and wide crosskritters: to got to chruch PHC4Christ: what are you getting
at? I used to travel an hour to church crosskritters: there
are closer churches PHC4Christ: yes, but some aren't churches, thus why we don't
attend :-) crosskritters: aha! PHC4Christ: they have serious issues - don't believe God's word is the Bible to name one thing crosskritters: I would agree that those are serious issues crosskritters: but what one calls a serious issure is reletive PHC4Christ: true, but I guess that can be said of anything Mz1Squarepants has entered the
room. Mz1Squarepants: does any1 think its weird, that when u walk down
the street, you find 2 cuhrches on the same block PHC4Christ: indeed - try 4 or
5 Mz1Squarepants: ya thats interesting eh PHC4Christ:
methodist, reformed, catholic, episcopalian, lutheran.... *covers eyes* crosskritters:
the trouble arises that a lot of times (not always) devision comes when one group of
people stops following the word of God (in one respect or many) and the other group has the choice to split or stay with the
false doctrine crosskritters: that's the
real issue PHC4Christ: true cowboymatt329:
yeah... AcidRainLiTE has left the room. crosskritters: so...how can we deal with this? PHC4Christ: somehow I thought of
PHC when you said that PHC4Christ: they stand up for the truth while other "Christian"
colleges are beginning to turn away crosskritters: welll,
that's kinda a different issue crosskritters: carry
on with the topic at hand Mz1Squarepants: i think there will
always be differences although its not right i mean... Mz1Squarepants: some
people might find that girls wearing jeans is unchristlike and others wont Mz1Squarepants:
some dont agree with wearing jewlery and others do crosskritters:
perfect example! PHC4Christ: true, but I
think that's something between you and God (and perhaps your parents if you are that age) unless it causes a stumbling block crosskritters: it says in the Bible not to adorn yourself with
silver and gold crosskritters: now imagine
there was a family that took this verse litterally PHC4Christ: ....but don't stop
there.... there's more :-) crosskritters: and they
didn't want their daughter to grow up in a church where women wore jewelery to church crosskritters:
...so they started a new movement of purity crosskritters:
now that probably sounds petty crosskritters:
most of us would agree that that's not a major issue Mz1Squarepants:
exactly crosskritters: but
it IS in the Bible Mz1Squarepants: your beauty should not come
from outward adornment such as braided hair and wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes Mz1Squarepants:
but i dont think peter ment that we were to dress in rags and not comb out hair Mz1Squarepants:
u kno PHC4Christ: exactly crosskritters:
but one COULD read it that way PHC4Christ:
they shouldn't cowboymatt329: right... Mz1Squarepants:
thats what i dont understand, how can one twist it up to mean that Mz1Squarepants:
its like they are trying to "analyze" the word into what they want it to sound like crosskritters:
no, I'm not talking about that cowboymatt329:
And I think most of the problems we have are mis-interpretations... PHC4Christ: amen PHC4Christ: we are not God - we did not write the Bible
PHC4Christ:
but out of the hardness of our hearts we twist things to make them look nice for us cowboymatt329:
right PHC4Christ: Matthew 5:29 cowboymatt329: Okay,
anymore on verses 10-17? SOL4 SCRIPTURA has entered the room. Mz1Squarepants has left the room. cowboymatt329: Lets take down some prayer requests... cowboymatt329:
anyone? tiggerish44: please pray for are trip two
florida cowboymatt329: Okay... cowboymatt329:
I will be in a horse competition on Monday, so please pray for that... crosskritters:
that sounds like fun cowboymatt329: should
be fun...anyone else? crosskritters: regarding our
trip to florida: crosskritters: pray that
we'll have a good impact on our grandparents cowboymatt329: okay crosskritters:
spiritually cowboymatt329: okey dokey, crosskritters: oh, and pray for Sam (rohanrider) crosskritters: he's got a huge load with college and his job cowboymatt329: okay cowboymatt329: any others? cowboymatt329:
okay, anyone to close us in prayer? crosskritters: don't
be shy people cowboymatt329: anyone? WackyWabbit25:
I volunteer Kat cowboymatt329: Okay...Kat can
close us in prayer. :D crosskritters: Dear Lord,
we thank you for this time together crosskritters: thank
you for your word crosskritters: please continue
to speak to us throughout the week crosskritters: thank
you for cowboy matt for leading the study crosskritters: please bless him in his horse competetion on monday crosskritters:
help those around to see your light through him crosskritters:
be with Sam crosskritters: help him to find your peace amidst his hectic schedule crosskritters:
and help him to share that peace with others crosskritters:
please be with austin and I crosskritters:
keep us safe on the road crosskritters: please influence my grandparents through us crosskritters:
please be with all of us as we go from here crosskritters:
give us wisdom to face life's decisions crosskritters:
we ask these things in Jesus' name crosskritters:
amen PHC4Christ: Amen WackyWabbit25:
amen cowboymatt329: Amen!
